Belinder Ice Cream Recipes

It’s been nearly three years now since I started making ice cream. After buying an ice cream maker for my sister for her grad school graduation, I immediately decided I wanted one as well, and bought a second one.

I started out using the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment for my stand mixer, which served me well as an enthusiast and recreational ice cream maker. Once I got a bit more serious about making ice cream—I entered the Ice Cream Takedown and agreed to do a daily blog for ice cream month for Real Simple—I knew it was time to upgrade. Luckily, the generous folks at Cuisinart gifted me the Supreme Commercial Quality Ice Cream Maker, which it appears is no longer in production.

Freed from the need to prep the freezer bowl ahead of time, I went into a bit of an ice cream frenzy. Making any and every flavor I could dream up, but never writing them down. I’ve had such supportive friends, family members, and co-workers along the way—spoons always at the ready—that I think it’s high time I share some of the recipes I’ve dreamt up.

I’m hoping that you’ll also forgive me if I meander a bit along the way—dabbling in cocktails, sorbets, and other desserts. Because while my love of ice cream is paramount, I have a wandering eye for brownies, bundt cakes, and bourbon-based anything.

Let’s start off with a question. Tell me your favorite ice cream flavors, or your dream ice cream flavor.

Mmmmm! My favorite ice cream flavor has always been butter pecan with cookies and cream as a close second.

Nothing too crazy here, but dream flavor: peanut butter-chocolate in the vein of a giant Reese’s egg (they’re like the pb cups, but with an amped-up pb to chocolate ratio and only sold during holidays, ie the egg is also sold at Christmas in tree form)–very heavy on the peanut butter and very light on the chocolate. With some texture too, please!! (And if you can figure out a way to add bourbon to that, be my guest!)

No contest! Mint chocolate chip. The kind with the thin chocolate bits and green color (I grew up with Turkey Hill ice cream!). Mmm … typing this comment made me hungry!

  4. I’d marry peppermint ice cream if it were legal.

  5. my dream flavor: a creamy peach with bittersweet chocolate flakes. i think you could make it happen.

  6. I do love a good coffee ice cream anytime, anywhere. What I have yet to taste is a well-done maple flavor…

Congrats, Kristin!! I’m excited to read about your adventures in ice cream and everything else ;)

  7. I’m with Vanessa on the Mint Chocolate Chip as my childhood favorite. My dad used to call it “pickle ice cream with flies” to dissuade us from eating his…

But tonight I’m thinking a White Russian in ice cream form could do me a world of good. Congrats on the launch! Kisses!

I am so exciting for this! I just got my own kitchen aid ice cream maker attachment and cannot wait to try your recipes with it. :) I love olive oil gelato! :)

  9. Oh yay! I can’t wait to see what you cook up here :) My favorite flavors? It’s a tossup between mint chip and Mexican chocolate (with plenty of salty peanuts mixed in). xoxo

  10. A lemon sorbet with dark chocolate flecks would be divine… but I have yet to find such a combo.

  11. Salted butter caramel! Have you ever tried David Lebovitz’s recipe? So good.

  12. Pistachio! Mix in some coconut and you’ll make me the happiest gal around!

  13. Coffee ice cream with chocolate chips or chunks or whatever shape/size chocolate is possible!

  14. Mango sorbet. Pumpkin ice cream. Not together. But a pumpkin ice cream with some sort of chocolate in it would pretty much make my life.

    Also, chocolate chip cookie dough.

  15. Coffee Toffee! Also, Peppermint Patty (as opposed to plain old Mint Chip. Sorry, Kasey).

Chocolate. With fudge sauce. I’m such a cliche.

However, I have fond taste memories of the fresh peach buttermilk ice cream formerly served at the Nelson Cheese Factory in wee little Nelson, Wisconsin.
